Unconditional and conditional competing risk models of activity duration and activity sequencing decisions: An empirical comparison
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper reports the results of an empirical comparison of various types of competing risk models in predicting the timing and duration of activities. In particular, three types of models are compared: a noncompeting risk model, an unconditional competing risk model, and a conditional competing risk model. The models are applied to an activity diary, collected in the Netherlands. The results of the comparison indicate that the conditional competing risk model performs best, indicating that the choice and timing of activities depends on the nature and duration of the activity conducted previously. The specific structure of these dependent transition probabilities are discussed in detail. Several socio-demographic variables are found to be significantly related to the transition probabilities.

Comparison of Random Survival Forests for Competing Risks and Regression Models in Determining Mortality Risk Factors in Breast Cancer Patients in Mahdieh Center, Hamedan, Iran
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Patients with cancer may die due to disease progression or other types of events. These different event types are called competing risks. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the survival of patients with breast cancer using three different approaches: cause-specific hazards regression, subdistri...
متن کاملInvariant Empirical Bayes Confidence Interval for Mean Vector of Normal Distribution and its Generalization for Exponential Family
Based on a given Bayesian model of multivariate normal with known variance matrix we will find an empirical Bayes confidence interval for the mean vector components which have normal distribution. We will find this empirical Bayes confidence interval as a conditional form on ancillary statistic. In both cases (i.e. conditional and unconditional empirical Bayes confidence interval), the empiri...
متن کاملCompeting Risk Hazard Model of Activity Choice, Timing, Sequencing, and Duration
Recently hazard models have become increasingly popular in transportation research for modeling duration processes of various kinds. The application of hazard models is extended to the field of activity scheduling to account for the continuous nature of the decision-making process underlying activity performance. A competing risk hazard mod~l of the accelerated time type, which describes simult...
متن کاملTesting for Nonnested Conditional Moment Restrictions via Conditional Empirical Likelihood
We propose non-nested tests for competing conditional moment resctriction models using a method of empirical likelihood. Our tests are based on the method of conditional empirical likelihood developed by Kitamura, Tripathi and Ahn (2004) and Zhang and Gijbels (2003). By using the conditional implied probabilities, we develop three non-nested tests: the moment encompassing, Cox-type, and effcien...
متن کاملPresenting a model for Multiple-step-ahead-Forecasting of volatility and Conditional Value at Risk in fossil energy markets
Fossil energy markets have always been known as strategic and important markets. They have a significant impact on the macro economy and financial markets of the world. The nature of these markets are accompanied by sudden shocks and volatility in the prices. Therefore, they must be controlled and forecasted by using appropriate tools. This paper adopts the Generalized Auto Regressive Condition...
